Apple release the new M5 Pro and M6 and people aren't really sure which one to buy just yet. This post is meant to help you decide which one might be best for you.

To break it down in a nutshell, if you are going to use the Apple Mac mini as a workstation, then the M6 pro will work just fine for single threaded applications. I generally suggest you go with as much RAM as you can afford since you not only are able to run smaller models, you also get to unlock memory bandwidth which will be more productive.

I would tailer M5 Pro for professionals and M6 fine for workstations or browsing for your parents or for those who don't use a lot of complex functions. There's really a Mac for everyone and the price points reflect that.

The long anticipated relese for the Mac Studio was released in August. There's people like myself who wanted to wait for the M5 Ultra to come out since it was delayed. The release moves the memory bandwidth to 1.2 TB/sec.

At Baanarun we'll be using the Mac Studio 96GB and also the 256GB version in our workshop to show the benefits of LocalLLM's and the beneficial services they can provide.

There's a lot of confusion as to how these pricey machines can actually help you and if it's really necessary. Our workshop is supposed to demystify those questions and show some practical use cases.

Many regular user tasks can be done on the Mac Mini M5 pro and M6 but we'll be taking it another step. I'll write in detail what I think will be the best use case for each over time.
